Overview

The Traeger Flatrock 3-Zone is the model to consider when you like everything about the Flatrock 2-Zone but regularly need more room. Its 594-square-inch carbon-steel cooktop provides 126 additional square inches of cooking area, while the third independently controlled burner gives you much more flexibility when preparing a complete meal. Traeger rates the surface for approximately 24 burgers, 26 eggs, or 28 strips of bacon, depending on how everything is arranged.

That third zone is more important than simply having another burner. Traeger’s TruZone™ temperature control uses heat shielding between the zones so you can run three genuinely different cooking temperatures across the same surface. You might have one section hot for smash burgers, another at medium heat for onions and peppers, and the third lower for warming buns or finished food. Three U-shaped burners provide a combined 47,000 BTU, while FlameLock™ construction recesses the cooktop into the grill body to help protect the flame from wind and maintain more consistent heat.

The 3-Zone also adds several convenience features over the smaller Flatrock. Burner indicator lights make it easier to see which zones are operating, while the built-in fuel gauge monitors the propane tank so you have a better idea when it is getting low. Electronic ignition simplifies startup, and two 17-inch folding side shelves provide plenty of room for ingredients, trays, seasonings, and utensils. Both shelves fold down when the griddle is not being used, reducing its overall width considerably.

Compared with the Flatrock 2-Zone, the reason to move up is capacity and control. The 2-Zone remains a great fit for everyday family cooking or a smaller patio. The Flatrock 3-Zone makes more sense for larger families, frequent entertaining, or anyone who regularly cooks several components of the meal at once. You are getting a larger cooktop, another independently controlled zone, more total burner output, and useful features like fuel monitoring—not simply a stretched version of the smaller griddle.
